A fantastic thriller! A very good book for a first-time author. The plot was intriguing especially for the emphasis of a strong female lead. The best parts for me were Maggie and Graham. At first, Shannon Condon got me appealed with the parents’ characters, but without a doubt, it is like being spellbound with enthrallment along with every character. Not to leave any spoilers, I was down with every detail that was spread all across the chapters. I felt most real with everyone each for a particular reason. For the most part, Magdalena had her magnificent spell of charm for her sincere personal relativism with everyone; it also made me feel a wave of ‘hiraeth’ homesickness of my own because of her humbleness and kindness. It is just like a magnet which automatically fuses you to feel with and love her…I’ll just say that author Condon did a marvelous creation in making this book series. I am very glad and thankful I got to connect with the author for an honest book review, truly moving! It does full-heartedly deserve 5 stars!
In honesty, when I started to read this book I was a bit skeptical about the plot but after 20 pages I realised how hooked I already was. The characters and settings are so vibrant, and I'd already fallen in love with Maggie's character. Highly recommend this book to anyone that loves feeling immersed in a plot because this book definitely does that for me, looking forward to reading the sequel!
Overall the story is really good and will have you crying and throwing your book at a few spots. Trust me you will cry both tears of sadness and tears of joy when you read her story. You will turning pages well into the night and wondering how Maggie got through it all. And found love and family despite all the hardships and terror she went through. This is the book for you, it will give you a book hangover , trust me I know. Hope to read more from this author and soon.
Maggie also uncovers a secret organisation called 'The Brotherhood' and discovers its sinister and shocking plans. Along with the help of Shep (her ex boyfriend's step father) and his covert team they aim to bring the organisation down. It's a dangerous mission that tests Maggie's physical and mental strength once more. This is a really fast paced story with action, tension and plenty of emotion. Once again I loved how Maggie was portrayed and her determination to free herself of an abusive relationship and bring justice to a corrupt and deadly organisation is to be commended, especially after all the ordeals she has had to endure before the age of nineteen. I do hope the author has another story penned in this series, now that Maggie is a major member of a special ops team, I can truly see more adventures in the making!! Another 5 stars for a brilliant book written by the talented author Shannon Condon.
Whenever I read a good book, I see it play out in my mind like a movie. That is what happened to me while reading this book. “The Brotherhood” sees the return of Magdalena in the second of three books in the Magdalena Series. Maggie and Mateo move to Milan so that she can attend the Milan Conservatory while he works at Antonelli Architecture. As 19 year old Maggie tries to settle into life as a married woman, she discovers a secret organization called the Brotherhood. I first have to say that the cover photo was what caught my eye while I was looking for a good book to read. Since I never read the back blurbs, I just dived right in. The writer does a very good job of introducing you to the characters and setting the scene of the story. I was able to feel what the characters felt throughout the entire book which had me smiling at times and crying at others. I also love books with a twist and this book did not disappoint. I am rating this book 5 stars because the author was able to deliver a really good story line and I felt completely immersed in Magdalena’s life. A must read!!
Shannon did a superb job in creating an extremely vain and unlikeable character when she developed Mateo. Ugh, what a jerk! Early in the story, we see a strong side of Maggie, but also a very vulnerable side when it comes to her husband. The Brotherhood is action-packed and suspenseful! I would recommend it to those who like a good lead female protagonist and adventure. Personally, I would pick up both Finding Magdalena and The Brotherhood together!
The characters are beautiful and well-written, and I love how fleshed-out they all are. There’s so much background, so much history behind them making them come so very much alive. I particularly liked Maggie at the center of it all; on one side she’s woman with a tough, hard exterior who can handle anything; but on the inside she’s has a vulnerable, soft core of emotions. Watching her battle her anxiety and panic attacks made her especially interesting to me. Condon’s writing is beautifully phrased and delicately constructed, with just enough mix of narrative and dialogue according to my taste. She never drones on, and she describes just enough to give you a taste of the world she’s created, letting you imagine everything else.
Spider's Web is an amazing continuation where The Brotherhood left off. Telling the story of the love between Maggie and Bernardo and the great lengths people will go to for those they love. This book made me mad, had me crying on several occasions and turned it all around to an ending befitting Maggie Shepherd. I loved this book and I look forward to the next one
"Spider's Web" doesn't fit into one category. Condon gave her readers a spy thriller, crime mystery with a few handfuls of family drama. Maggie (Magdalena Murano) has been through a lot. She is still physically and emotionally recovering from some serious trauma. As a young woman with a great husband (Bernardo) and a beautiful three-year-old daughter (Francesca), Maggie wants to be happy. She's restless. Running the family team's special ops missions close to home is not what Maggie wants. When she reconnects with the real world for a getaway weekend; everything goes haywire. The apt title says it all. Spider webs can be very intricate, very messy and very binding. After everything that she's been through, who is coming after her now? Who orchestrated her kidnapping? What does that person want with her? Maggie has to use her wits, charm, and military training to stay alive while her family does everything they can on their end. Just when I thought that the struggle was over and done with, I was wrong.
This is the fourth book in a series about a young woman who is highly intelligent and beautiful. Ironically, she is also very deadly. This was by far my favorite "Magdalena" book. Although I loved the previous three books, this one was much more fast paced and shocking. Just when you think you know who the good guys are you are shocked to learn that you are wrong. I love the twists and turns of this series. Can't wait for the next book.
This was a very unexpected read. The speed and action are lightening fast resulting in a page turner. The main characters are heavily laden in emotion showing their investment in their circumstances. This sets the book apart from others in this genre and gives it an unexpected depth.
I was hooked from page one with Subterfuge, and was gutted I got through it so fast! The storyline had some great unexpected twists that kept it exciting and kept me on my toes, and left me wondering what each chapter would bring. I loved that the first chapter was from a perspective of a different character than the rest of the book, as it helped make these characters feel more relatable when they became important to the plot later on.
